#18 Redhawks Fall in Battle of Ranked Teams

WOOSTER, OH -- #18 La Roche came up short in a battle of ranked teams on Thursday afternoon. The 5-1 loss at #2 Wooster snaps the Redhawks six game win streak.

The Redhawks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Joe Professori singled and Jay Novak lined a 1-2 two-out pitch into left field for the opening run.

Wooster loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning. Starter Alek Tesla limited the damage, allowing just an RBI groundout before a flyout to centerfield.

Tesla threw a scoreless second inning, but Wooster took a 2-1 lead on an unearned run in the third inning.

Jake Seymour entered in relief to start the fourth inning. He struck out the first batter and had two outs with a runner on first base. The Fighting Scots hit a 2-out triple to the right-field gap for a 3-1 lead. It looked like the Redhawks had come away with the third out in the next at bat. A La Roche outfielder made a terrific catch along the wall, but the ball bounced out and over the wall for a home run.

Seymour followed with scoreless fifth and sixth innings. Cam Smith entered to start the seventh and used a line out to leave a runner at third base. He followed with a scoreless eighth inning.

Jonathan Melendez doubled in the seventh and Austin Hoffman in the ninth, but both were stranded as flyouts ended the innings.

Professori went 2 for 4 with a run and Novak 2 for 4 with an RBI.

The Redhawks will play a double header on Saturday at Pitt-Bradford.
