PITTSBURGH, PA –La Roche Baseball improved to 16-5 and 5-1 in the AMCC after sweeping Penn State Altoona on Wednesday afternoon. The Redhawks took Game One 5-1 and Game Two 10-4.

Game 1:

Starting pitcher Regis Sauer sent the Lions down in order to start the game. The Redhawk offense backed up Sauer with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Jon Spina led off with a double to left and Joe Professori followed with a walk. Dylan Urban put La Roche up 2-0 with a 2-run double to left field. Urban scored on a Jay Novak fielder's choice. Shane Roebuck walked and scored on an Austin Hoffman single to right field.

The Redhawks tacked on a run in the second inning. Spina hit a leadoff triple and scored on an Urban single into left.

Penn State Altoona got one back in the third inning, but Sauer continued to roll through the Lions' batting order.

The Lions had one last chance in the top of the seventh. They loaded the bases, but Urban made a diving grab to secure the victory.

Urban had 3 RBIs and scored. Spina went 3 for 4 with a triple, double and 2 runs.

Sauer went the distance to earn his second win. He allowed an earned run and struck out four.

Game 2:

Starting pitcher Nick Tunstall used a 4-6-3 double play to get out of the first inning. The Redhawks went hitless in the first but took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Jonathan Melendez reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a 2-out single by Gino Quahliero.

La Roche struck for two more in the bottom of the third. Professori tripled to center and scored on a 2-out double by Shane Roebuck. Roebuck advanced home on an error.

A Spina RBI single in the fourth and Novak 2-run double in the fifth extended the Redhawk lead.

Penn State Altoona cut it to 6-4 with runs in the fifth and sixth innings. La Roche got two back in the bottom of the sixth.

Christian Hirt, Spina, and Professori strung together three straight singles. Hirt scored on Professori's hit and Professori advanced home on a fielder's choice.

Relief pitcher Jake Seymour picked off a runner in the seventh and Hirt made a terrific play at third base.

Professori and Urban added insurance runs in the eighth inning. Shane Emrich needed just 10 pitches (9 strikes) to end it.

Professori and Roebuck each scored three runs. Roebuck and Novak had 2 RBIs.

Tunstall three 5 2/3 innings to register the win. Seymour and Emrich did not allow a run in relief.
