Orange and Woods Receive 2021 Athletic Awards

The La Roche University Athletics Department has announced the 2021 recipients of LRU's annual athletic awards.

Senior biology major Isabelle Orange (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) of the women's soccer and bowling teams is this years recipient of the Harry G. Austin Scholar Award. The award is given to the student-athlete who best blends academic achievements with play on the field. Isabelle was a four-year member of the soccer team and two-year member of the women's bowling team. Orange played in 36 games and started 27 as a goalkeeper. She went 11-14 in her career, made 144 saves, had a .774 save percentage and recorded five shutouts. Orange was a two-time AMCC Defensive Player of the Week her junior season. Orange was also a member of the 2019-20 inaugural women's bowling team at La Roche and played for two seasons. Isabelle was recently featured on the University's website in a Student Spotlight article which can be read HERE. Belle will be attending the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois next fall which she will pursue her dreams of becoming a veterinarian.

"It's an honor to be thought of so highly by not only my professors, but also the athletic department" -said Orange. "I am forever grateful to be a recipient of this prestigious La Roche award."

Senior exercise science and psychology major Jared Woods (Zanesville, OH/Philo) is this years recipient of the Coach Scott Lang Student-Athlete Award. In memory of La Roche's beloved head basketball coach, Scott Lang, the Athletic Department recognizes a student-athlete who has demonstrated the qualities which were important to Coach Lang on and off the field: integrity, character, leadership and responsibility. Woods is a four-year member of the men's soccer team and has played in 23 games for the Redhawks. He served as the 2021 Student Athlete Advisory Council President. Jared was recently featured on the University's website in a Student Spotlight article which can be read HERE. Jared will further his education at the University of Pittsburgh this fall to earn his Master's Degree in sports science.

"It means a lot to me to be selected for this award" said Woods. "I know how much Scott Lang means to the whole university. To be in the same category as pervious winners is very humbling. Everyone who has been apart of my journey at La Roche had a part in this award"

Both Belle and Jared graduated from La Roche University on Saturday May 8th, 2021. They have been named to the AMCC Academic All-Conference team numerous times. They are also both AMCC "Peak Performers", meaning they have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher throughout their collegiate careers and they are both members of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society.
