Redhawks Close Regular Season In Defeat Against Lions

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball hosted Penn State Behrend in Saturday's regular season finale, but were unable to take down the Lions, falling 3-0.

The Redhawks had already clinched a spot in the AMCC Volleyball Tournament and the game really played in a factor in seeding.

With the defeat, La Roche will enter the AMCC Tournament as the fifth seed.

Behrend jumped ahead 5-1 in the opening set, but the Redhawks countered to even the match at 5-5.

From there, a 4-0 Lion run made it a 9-5 score and a lead that Behrend would never relinquish, closing the opening set by a final score of 25-19.

In the third and final set of the match, La Roche stormed ahead taking a 7-1 lead, but once again a run of 9-2 by the Lions gave Behrend a 10-9 lead.

This time, the Redhawks countered to take the lead back at 12-10, holding it up until it was 17-16.

From that point, the Lions closed the set scoring nine of the final 11 points to win the set 25-19 and close out the match.

This time around, it was senior Morgan Johnson leading the offense with eight kills, followed by sophomore Kalli Grine with six kills.

Senior Madison Johnson was the team's leader in assists with 10, while freshman Tanner Kephart chipped in seve,

Senior Mackenzie Kerkan led the defense with 14 digs, flanked by Morgan Johnson and senior Lauren Tomasko with 11 and Madison Johnson's 10 for the double-double.

As previously noted, La Roche enters the AMCC Tournament as the fifth seed and will travel to fourth seed Wells on Wednesday, Nov. 8 for a 7 p.m. matchup.
