Redhawks Win Second Straight, Defeat Hilbert 3-1

HAMBURG, N.Y. – La Roche volleyball brought home its second straight victory in its final road match of the 2023 season, defeating Hilbert 3-1.

 

The Redhawks cruise in the opening set, winning 25-13 behind a 14-5 run that opened the set to grow an early lead.

 

Set two was the opposite as the fortunes were in favor of Hilbert, as the Hawks won their only set of the match 25-16.

 

In set three, La Roche cruised to a 25-14 set win to go up 2-1.

 

After an early 5-5 score, the Redhawks jumped ahead 16-7 and never looked back as they now held the edge.

 

In the final set, La Roche stormed ahead to a 13-3 lead and as time went on the lead grew to 21-10.

 

However, Hilbert continued to fight, but it wasn't enough, as the Redhawks closed out the victory 25-19.

 

Sophomore Kalli Grine led the offense with 11 kills, swinging .429 on the day, while junior Quinn Hughes followed with eight kills.

 

Defensively, reigning AMCC Defensive Player of the Week, Mackenzie Kerkan, led the team with 21 digs, while Lauren Tomasko chipped in 18.

 

Madison Johnson finished with the team-high for assists with 15, with Emily Kasun's nine following.

 

A four-game home stretch closes out the 2023 regular season for La Roche, beginning with a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 28 as the Redhawks meet Wells in AMCC play at 12 p.m., then a match against Westminster at 4 p.m.
