Redhawks Bounce Back With 3-0 Sweep Of Bobcats

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball jumped right back into the win column as it went on to sweep Pitt-Greensburg 3-0 on Tuesday night.

 

In set one, it was the Bobcats holding the lead around the midway point, with the score reading 13-9.

 

However, the Redhawks locked in, scoring 16 of the sets final 22 points to bring home a 25-19 victory to take a 1-0 lead.

 

Set two was close early, with La Roche holding a slight 6-4 lead. From there, the Redhawks would outscore UPG 19-6, including two runs of 6-1 to take a 2-0 lead with a 25-10 victory.

 

In the final set, La Roche stormed ahead to a 10-5 lead, built that was ultimately cut down to 10-9 by the Bobcats.

 

The Redhawks would go on to score eight of the next 10 to lead 18-11, and would close the set scoring the final four points to seal the victory 25-18 and the match.

 

Senior Lauren Tomasko highlighted the afternoon, with a team best 12 kills and 11 digs for the double-double. Freshman Aislyn Williams followed in the kill department with eight.

 

Junior Quinn Hughes led the offense with nine kills and a .444 hitting percentage, followed by sophomore Kalli Grine with eight kills and senior Rory McCune with six.

 

Defensively, senior Lauren Tomasko led the way with 19 dige, followed by fellow senior Mackenzie Kerkan with 16 and Madison Johnson, another senior, chipping in 13.

 

On the block, Hughes picked up two solo blocks and three assisted blocks, while Grine had a solo block and three assisted blocks of her own.

 

Before La Roche finishes the season with four straight home matches, the Redhawks hit the road for the final time on Saturday, Oct. 21 when they travel to Hamburg, N.Y. for a matchup against Hilbert in a rematch of non-conference play on Sept. 9, in which La Roche won 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17). Opening serve is slated for 1 p.m.
