PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball saw its brief win streak come to an end, falling to Alfred State 3-0.

 

In set one, the Redhawks jumped ahead, holding a 6-2 lead, and held a five-point edge later in the set, 17-12.

 

However, the Pioneers would surge late in the opening set, scoring 13 of the final 19 points, including a 7-1 run to close out the set and win 25-23.

 

Once again, La Roche stormed ahead in set two, holding a 7-3 lead earl, which would then grow to 15-10 at the midway point.

 

Alfred State, much like set one, locked in and would chip the lead to 18-15 and from that point, outscored the Redhawks 10-2 to take a 2-0 lead behind a 25-20 set win.

 

In the final set, La Roche held the early 2-1 lead, but after the Pioneers to the lead at 4-3, which grew to 6-3, the Redhawks could only tie the set one more time at 8-8 as Alfred State ended the afternoon with a 25-21 victory.

 

Senior Lauren Tomasko highlighted the afternoon, with a team best 12 kills and 11 digs for the double-double. Freshman Aislyn Williams followed in the kill department with eight.

 

Senior's Emily Kasun and Madison Johnson again split the setting duties, as Kasun finished the match with 16 and Johnson added 11.

 

Defensively, only Makenzie Kerkan would out-dig Tomasko with a game-high 24, while sophomore Kalli Grine added three blocks and an assisted block.

 

La Roche now looks to its next match, a second consecutive home game, against Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday, Oct. 17 with opening serve set for 7 p.m.
