Redhawks Take Down Celtics In 3-2 Thriller

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball had to go the distance on Wednesday night, as they took down Carlow on the road in a 3-2 thriller.

 

In set one, Carlow look at its absolute best, dominating the Redhawks, taking a 25-13 victory and 1-0 lead into set two.

 

However, La Roche quickly flipped the script, dominating the second set, much like the Celtics did set one, winning by a score of 25-13.

 

The Redhawks held just a slight lead of 12-10 in the second set, before scoring 13 of the final 16 points.

 

Set three was like set one, with Carlow using a late push to take down La Roche 25-18.

 

With the match on the line, the Redhawks were on point in set four, opening up a quick 12-4 lead, then scoring yet again, 13 of the last 16 points to send the match into a deciding fifth set.

 

In the final set, after trailing 2-0 to open things, La Roche bounced back to take a 4-2 lead, one it would never relinquish, as it went on to take seal the victory with a 15-12 tiebreak set win.

 

Much like set two, the Redhawks locked in and score 13 of the final 19 points in the set to seal the victory with a 25-16 set win.

 

Junior Quinn Hughes and sophomore Kalli Grine dominated on the offensive end, picking up 15 kills each on the night.

 

Senior Madison Johnson put together a season high 23 assists, while fellow senior Emily Kasun also hit double figures with 11.

 

Defensively, four ladies earned double figure digs, with senior Mackenzie Kerkan leading the way with 23. Madison Johnson picked up 12 digs to earn the double-double on the night, while senior's Morgan Johnson and Lauren Tomasko added 13 and 11 respectively.

 

With a three-game winning streak ongoing, La Roche returns home for its first AMCC home match, when it welcome Alfred State on Saturday, Oct. 14 for a 12 p.m. start.
