Redhawks Pick Up 10th Win In 3-0 Sweep Over Kuyper

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball ended a three-game skid on Friday night, defeating Kuyper College in straight sets, 3-0 to win their 10th of the season.

 

In set one, it was the Redhawks who dominated the early going, jumping ahead 9-3.

 

The roll continued after Kuyper cut the deficit to 9-5, as La Roche would go on to score 14 of the next 15 points to take a commanding 23-6 lead.

 

Down the stretch the Cougars showed life, scoring seven of the next eight points, but the Redhawks would take the set 25-13.

 

Set two was closer early, as the score stood at 7-5 in favor of La Roche over the first 12 points.

 

The Redhawks then followed through to score 11 of the next 16 points to grown a comfortable 18-10 lead that ultimately finished in a 25-14 set victory.

 

Set three saw Kuyper give a fast start as they led La Roche early in the set 9-5.

 

The Redhawks countered with a 5-0 run to take a 10-9 lead, and despite two ties at 10-10 and 11-11, never gave the Cougars the lead back, scoring 14 of the final 19 points to win 25-15 and seal the victory.

 

Junior Quinn Hughes was the offensive leader finishing the game with nine kills and also had three service aces.

 

Following Hughes was freshman Aislyn Williams who added five kills.

 

In the assist box, senior Emily Kasun's nine was the team high, while freshman Tanner Kephart chipped in five herself.

 

Defensively, senior Mackenzie Kerkan notched a game-high 13 digs, with fellow senior Morgan Johnson adding in nine.

 

Hughes was equally dominant on the block as she was offensively, picking up four solo blocks and a pair of assisted blocks.

 

La Roche has a quick turnaround as it hits the road to Bradford, Pa. for a 1 p.m. matchup against Pitt-Bradford.
