Redhawks Sweep Bobcats In Non-Conference Action

GREENSBURG, Pa. – La Roche volleyball returned to the court for the first time in a week a quickly jumped back into the win column with a 3-0 victory over Pitt-Greensburg.

 

The open set was the closest and a back-and-forth set, with the Redhawks prevailing, 25-23.

 

La Roche would jump ahead early, leading 10-5, and that lead continued and grew to 18-12 and then 21-16.

 

The Redhawk lead stood at 23-19 late in the set, but the Bobcats would score four of the next five points to trail just 24-23, but La Roche would get the much needed final point to seal the set victory.

 

Set two was all Redhawks, winning 25-13. The set was quickly in La Roche's favor, lead 10-3, but it would get trimmed to 15-11. Afterwards, the Redhawks would use an 8-0 run to put the set out of reach, punctuating the set with an overall 10-2 run.

 

Set three saw La Roche again jump ahead 10-6 early, but after UPG cut the deficit to 14-12, a 5-1 Redhawk run made it a 19-13 game before they would close out the set 25-18 to clinch the victory.

 

On the night, sophomore Kalli Grine shined with 13 kills and a .393 hitting percentage to lead the offense, while senior Lauren Tomasko followed with six kills.

 

Senior's Madison Johnson and Emily Kasun were great on the setting end, with the two picking up 12 and 11 assists respectively.

 

Defensively, three players ended in double digits for dige, with senior Mackenzie Kerkan's 14 leading the team, while fellow senior Morgan Johnson dug out 13 and Tomasko added 10.

 

On the blocking end, Grine put up four solo blocks, while junior Quinn Hughes followed with a pair.

 

La Roche has a quicker turnaround this time, as they prepare for a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Washington & Jefferson. The Redhawks will meet the host Presidents at 3 p.m., but before that meet Franciscan at 1 p.m. in a rematch of Sept. 13, won by La Roche, 3-2.
