LRUVB Splits at Lycoming Quad Match

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The La Roche women's volleyball team went 2-2 on Friday and Saturday at the Lycoming Quad Match at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. The Redhawks are now 2-3 overall this season.

In the first two matches on Friday evening, the Redhawks were swept three sets to none by both Manhattanville and the host, Lycoming College. LRUVB headed into Saturday's games with an 0-3 record and had yet to win a set this season (0-9).

Luckily, the red and white turned things and picked up their first win of the season Saturday morning against Penn St. Mt. Alto. La Roche defeated the Lions in a five set thriller, 3-2. The Redhawks outscored Mt. Alto by just two points (110-108). Each of the last two sets went into extra time.

In the victory, Senior outside hitter and AMCC Player to Watch Bethany Nulph (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) posted a career-high 14 kills and added 13 digs. Senior libero Sydney Herzer (Huber Heights, OH/Wayne) tallied a career-high 37 digs and five service aces. Junior Cassidy Rossi (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) had a career-high 20 assists and 17 digs. Sophomore Mackenzie Kerkan (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) tallied a career-high 25 digs.

Later in the afternoon, the Redhawks kept things rolling and got their second win of the season in a three set sweep over Notre Dame (Md.). Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Tomasko (Connellsville, PA/Geibel Catholic) had a team and career-high 9 kills and a .320 kill percentage. Rossi picked up another double-double with 15 assists and 14 digs.

With the two victories on Saturday afternoon, head coach Nicole Bajuszik collected her 100th and 101st career wins.

Next Up: LRUVB will play their home opener this Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m. against Allegheny College.
