Women's Volleyball Drop Final Two Games at Tournament

COLUMBUS, Oh. - La Roche volleyball lost their fifth and sixth straight matches today against Denison and Oberlin to close out the Capital University Tournament. Six of those seven loses came on the road or at neutral sites. The Redhawks now post a 4-9 record this season. 

Game 1 vs Denison

  • Final Score: La Roche: 0, Denison: 3
  • Set Scores: 11-25, 20-25, 11-25
  • This afternoon's sweep marks the sixth of the year for the Redhawks. 
  • La Roche put up a total of 42 points against Denison, their lowest point total in a match this season. 

Game 2 vs Oberlin

  • Final Score: La Roche: 2, Oberlin: 3
  • Set Scores: 12-25, 25-19, 15-25, 26-24, 11-15
  • The Redhawks recorded 52 kills in the match, the most they have recorded in a single match this season. Their previous high was 41 kills against Clarks Summit on September 6th.
  • The match against Oberlin marks the second match this season that went to five sets, both resulting in a loss (Septmeber 11th vs Waynesburg; L, 3-2)
  • This is the second time this season the teams have faced one another. In the last match, on August 31st, Oberlin swept the Redhawks 3-0.
  • The Redhawks struggled mostly in the first and third sets, losing them by a combined deficit of 23 points

LEADING THE ATTACK: Freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Jeric had a breakthrough performance, recording a career-high 15 kills in five sets. It is more than twice as many kills as Jeric's previous career-high (7 kills vs Waynesburg on 9/11) and marks the most kills by any Redhawk in a single match this season. Junior middle hitter Ingrid Spear and Junior outside hitter Reilee Bradford both finished with double-digit kill numbers and recorded season-highs (Spear: 11, Bradford: 13). 

SET EM' UP: Senior setter Bailey McDonald led the Redhawks again in assists against Oberlin recording 23 in the match. It marks the fourth match this season McDonald has recorded 20 or more assists. She has done so three of the last five matches. 

BACK ROW PLAY: Senior setter Erin Connor recorded a career-high 24 digs on the day and led the Redhawks in the category. It is the third time this year Connor has recorded 20 or more digs in a single match. Reilee Bradford also had a season-high 19 digs to compliment her 13 kills. 

NEXT UP: The Redhawks host Westminster (Pa.) next Tuesday (9/24) at 7:00 p.m at the Kerr Sport and Fitness Center.
