LATROBE, Pa. - The La Roche women's volleyball team dropped three of their four matches at the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge on Thursday and Friday to start the 2019-2020 season.

The Redhawks started the tournament Friday morning against the hosts, St. Vincent College (3-1). The first two sets were decided by two points respectively (23-25, 26-24), La Roche winning the latter. After a competitive start, St. Vincent won the next two sets decisively (10-25, 16-25). Senior Bailey McDonald had an impressive first match posting four kills on nine attempts (.444 hit pct.) Four Redhawks had five or more kills in the match (Bethany Nulph-5, Janet Aland-7, Ingrid Spear-6, Reilee Bradford-6). 

Friday afternoon, the Redhawks faced Westminster (4-0) where they similarly lost three sets to one (13-25, 25-17, 16-25, 19-25). 

Saturday morning, the Redhawks got their first victory on the season against Waynesburg (0-4) in straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-18). As a unit, La Roche hit an efficient 34 kills on 82 attempts (.280) led by Janet Aland who had 7 kills on 12 attempts and a .500 hit pct.

For the last match of the tournament, La Roche took on Oberlin College where they lost in straight sets (17-25, 18-25, 18-25).
