Volleyball Sweeps Franciscan, Clinches AMCC Tournament Berth
PITTSBURGH, PA The Redhawks earned an AMCC Tournament berth after rolling to a 3-0 sweep over Pitt-Greensburg. La Roche can clinch a home match with a victory on Saturday at D'Youville.
 
Ingrid Spear provided two early kills as the Redhawks ran out to an 8-0 lead. Bethany Nulph stepped away from the serving line for the first time when Franciscan called a timeout. The Barons finally got on the board but La Roche continued to roll. 
 
Nulph threw down two straight kills to stretch the Redhawk lead to 19-8. Franciscan cut the deficit to 23-14 but a Nulph kill, followed by a Janet Aland kill won set one 25-14. Nulph had 5 set one kills and Bailey McDonald had 6 assists.
 
McDonald and Spear combined for a block to give the Redhawks their first lead of set two. Franciscan hung around early but McDonald rattled off four straight points and an ace.
 
Janet Aland had a solo block to extend the lead to 10-5 and Franciscan used a timeout. Spear continued to dominate at the net, blocking one and throwing down two kills. A Sarah Storino serving ace made it 20-8 and a Spear killed won set two at 25-10. The Redhawks scored eleven straight points on Storino serves.
 
Laura Nath threw down a spike to make her presence felt early in set three. The Redhawks grabbed a 12-5 lead but the Barons inched back into it with three aces.
 
Franciscan made it interesting, cutting it to 21-19. Haley Ebersole stopped the run with a kill and McDonald followed with an ace, as the Redhawks took it 25-19.
 
Nath finished with a match-high 9 kills while Nulph had 8 kills. Storino had 20 assists while Scott paced the defense with 20 digs.
