Volleyball Puts Together Improbable Comeback, Overcome 2-0 Deficit To Beat Penn State Behrend In Five Sets

PITTSBURGH, PA -- La Roche College Volleyball put together an improbable comeback, overcoming a 2-0 deficit to beat Penn State Behrend in five sets (10-25, 9-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-12).

Behrend took control at the net to run out to an early 7-2 lead. Coach Bajuszik called a timeout to rally her squad and the Redhawks responded with three straight points. Behrend halted the momentum and inched their way to a set 1 victory. Sarah Storino registered an ace, but the Lions won the set 25-10.

Behrend sprinted out to an 11-4 set 2 lead, forcing La Roche to burn a timeout. The Lions continued to apply pressure and ran away with a 25-9 set 2 win.

Penn State Behrend grabbed a 3-0 set 3 lead, but Hannah Scott guided the Redhawks back with seven straight points. La Roche battled and gained control at the net. Ingrid Spear provided a block and Reilee Bradford provided a pair of kills.

Behrend called a timeout at 21-13, but La Roche stepped on the accelerator. Bailey McDonald aced a point and a Behrend attack error ended it.

Behrend made a run early and held a commanding 15-8 set 4 lead. Coach Bajuszik challenged the Redhawks to respond, and La Roche rallied to take an 18-17 lead. Storino contributed two aces over the course of the run. The Redhawks maintained a slim 23-22 lead, but two Behrend errors let La Roche take it 25-22.

Bradford opened the deciding set with two straight points. Behrend ran off four straight points, but the Redhawks continued to battle. A Behrend serving error gave La Roche an 8-7 lead. Teams traded points and Nath threw down a kill to tie it at 12-12. Scott followed with two straight aces and a Nath kill secured the comeback. 

Scott finished with 4 aces and Storino 3 aces. Nath had a game-high 13 kills. Storino set up 19 kills while Scott picked up 26 digs. 

The Redhawks host Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday night in a non-conference match.
