Volleyball Opens With Victory Over Medaille

The La Roche women's volleyball team knocked off Medaille 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23) in the La Roche College Tournament's opening match on Friday evening. The Redhawks will play a pair of matches tomorrow, with Chatham visiting at 10am and Hiram at 11:30am.

La Roche turned a 17-16 set one lead into a 25-21 victory. Christine Aland provided a pair of kills and combined with Laura Nath on a set-ending block.

Medaille gained an early advantage in the second set. Nath gave the Redhawks their first lead with straight aces, but Medaille stayed within striking distance at 16-15. The Mavericks hit into errors on four of the next seven rallies, and La Roche took game two 25-20. Sarah Storino and Hannah Scott had aces down the stretch.

Medaille responded to take game three 25-21.

The fourth set went back-and-forth but La Roche stayed focused, played hard, and came out on top with a 25-23 win. Melissa Postek and Sarah Hooper provided kills to break a one point game. Scott added an ace and a Medaille service error ended it.

AMCC Preseason Player of the Year, Laura Nath, finished with 12 kills and 5 aces. AMCC Preseason Player to Watch, Hannah Scott, had a game-high 25 digs. Sarah Storino set up 16 kills.
