PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche women's volleyball team dropped a tough one in their home opener against Grove City College. The Redhawks held leads in the first two sets but were unable to hold on in the 3-0 loss (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) .
In the first set, La Roche went point for point with Grove City. They traded leads fourteen times and the Redhawks held a 23-22 advantage before Grove City strung together three straight points.
The Redhawks opened the second set with an 8-2 run. Grove City quickly came back scoring 11 of the next 13 points, however La Roche huddled up and did not let the set get out of hand. Tough defense from the net and backline anchored the comeback and the Redhawks tied it at 22-22. Grove City again scored the final three points to take the second set.
La Roche made things interesting in the third set but Grove City was able to hold on for the 25-17 win.
Laura Nath reached double digit kills (11) and Sarah Storino assists (13). Hannah Scott was excellent with 32 digs.
The Redhawks are back in action tomorrow and will host W&J. Game-time is 7pm.
