St. Vincent Tournament: Volleyball Sweeps Waynesburg, Falls to Westminster

LATROBE, PA -- The La Roche women's volleyball team opened the 2017 season with a pair of matches at the St. Vincent Tournament. The Redhawks opened the season by sweeping Waynesburg before falling to Westminster in the late match. 

La Roche faced off against Waynesburg for the second time in three days and again won in three straight sets. The Redhawks never trailed after the first point in game one and never trailed in game three. The first half of game two belonged to Waynesburg before La Roche answered with eight straight points to take control.

Laura Nath had a match-high 7 kills while Sarah Storino provided 19 assists and 3 serving aces. Toni Torchia and Hannah Scott paved the way on defense with 22 and 16 digs.

The Redhawks remained competitive in the 9pm match despite the 3-0 score. They enjoyed late leads in both the first and third games before Westminster was able to squeak out wins.

Nath paced the Redhawks in kills and digs and Storino in assists and serving aces.
