McCANDLESS, Pa. - The LRU women's tennis team won their season opener in a thriller at Medaille Saturday afternoon, 5-4. The victory marks the Redhawks first season opening victory since the 2015 season. The Medaille Mavericks were the runner-ups in the 2019 AMCC Women's Tennis Tournament Championship.

La Roche won two of the three doubles matches. At first doubles, sophomore Alexandra Jaksec and freshman Isabella Lane won, 8-4. At third doubles, senior Allie Mroczkowski and freshman Tess Hoffmann won, 8-2.

The Redhawks split the six singles matches with the Mavericks, 3-3. Senior Rochelle Selzer defeated her opponent convincingly, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Isabella Lane went 2-0 on the day. At third singles, she won a  close and hard fought match 4-6, 6-3, 11-9. Senior Jazmyn Davis picked up a big win at fifth singles in two sets 6-1, 6-0.

LRU plays their home opener next Sunday, March 28th at Penn St. Altoona starting at 1:00 p.m. No spectators will be permitted.
