PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The women's soccer team defeated conference opponent Pitt Bradford in a must win game this afternoon by a score of 3-1 on Senior Day. The Redhawks finish the regular season with a 5-2 record at their home venue where they averaged 1.43 goals/game while holding opponents to an average of 1.00 goals/game. With one game remaining on the schedule, the postseason picture is still unclear for La Roche. In order for the Redhawks to be in playoff contention, they will not only have to take down undefeated Pitt Greensburg on their home turf, but they will need Mt. Aloysius to beat Franciscan. The top six team's in the AMCC all currently have a winning record in conference play.

Regardless of the outcomes next weekend, the Redhawks are trending in the right direction. This season, La Roche has already won two more conference games and scored two more goals than they did in all of 2018. More importantly, the underclassmen produced most of the offense this year. 17 of La Roche's 20 goals were scored by underclassmen (Freshmen: 13, Sophomores: 4).

Seniors Samantha Terry, Jessica Nakamura & Hanna Csoman were all recognized after today's victory. They have played a combined 115 games in their time at La Roche.

Final: La Roche: 3, Pitt Bradford: 2

Records: La Roche (7-8, AMCC: 4-5), Pitt Bradford (4-13, AMCC: 2-7)

Highlights

  • Pitt Bradford's Taylor Sutryk scored the lone goal of the first half in the 12th minute of the match.
  • Redhawk forward Ashley Mineard would even things up less than 40 seconds into the second half. Sophomore forward Alondra Gonzalez crossed the ball from the right side of teh field and Mineard headed it into the back left corner of the goal. Despite missing two games mid-season, Ashley has put together a very impressive Freshman campaign. Mineard leads the team this season with 7 goals (T-8th in AMCC) & 16 points (T-9th in AMCC).
  • In the 59th minute of the match, Senior Jessica Nakamura set up Freshman forward Heaven Butler who ripped a shot from nearly 30 yards out to the top right corner of the goal to give the Redhawks a one goal lead. After not scoring in the first nine games of the season, Butler has notched four goals in the last six games. The assist is Jessie's first this season and the second of her career.
  • Freshman forward Charley Taylor scored her first career goal in the 66th minute of the match off a rebound. Junior forward Piper Claypool was accredited with the assist. The goal proved vital as the Panthers would bring the game within one as the clock was winding down.
