Women's Soccer Falls 3-0 at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Oh. - The La Roche women's soccer team was shutout this afternoon at memorial field 3-0 by conference opponent Franciscan University. Today's win is the Barons second straight 3-0 victory against the Redhawks, last year they did so at the Baierl Athletic Complex. The Redhawks fall to to 2-3 in conference play putting them at  7th in the AMCC, currently one spot out off playoff contention. The team still has plenty of opportunities to climb back into the postseason picture, but the road ahead will not be easy. Three of their remaining five games this season will be against teams with a combined AMCC record of 7-1-2 (Penn St. Behrend (10/19), Penn St. Altoona (10/23) and undefeated Pitt Greensburg (10/29).

Final: La Roche: 0, Franciscan: 3

Records: La Roche (5-6, AMCC:2-3), Franciscan (6-5, AMCC: 2-2-1)

Synopsis:

The Barons struck first in the 17th minute of the match off a rebounded corner kick that snuck past Junior goalkeeper Isabelle Orange. The Redhawks retaliated with two quick shots on goal from Freshman forward Ashley Mineard and Sophomore forward Piper Claypool but were unsuccessful in finding the back of the goal. Late in the first half, Senior defender Jessica Nakamura was injured after incidentally colliding with Orange.

Franciscan would score twice with only a few minutes remaining in the first half. The first goal came when a Baron forward struck the ball from just outside the penalty area into the top right side of the goal. With the clock winding down, a Baron striker shot the ball from the far top left corner of the penalty area to the opposite side of the goal to give Franciscan a 3-0 lead heading into the half.

Despite being bested by three goals, the Redhawks were on par in shots on goal with the Barons 6-6. Franciscan's three goals today are the most Orange has allowed in a single game this season.

NEXT UP: The Redhawks head to Hilbert College this Saturday, October 12th to take on the Hawks beginning at 3:15 p.m.
