Redhawks Win Overtime Thriller Against Mt. Aloysius

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - In front of the home crowd, women's soccer picked up their first conference win of the season in thrilling fashion against the Mt. Aloysious Mounties 1-0. Today's match is the Redhawks seventh this season decided by a single goal. La Roche is 4-3 in those games. Sophomore forward Piper Claypool (Sarver, PA) was the hero in today's match, scoring the lone goal of the match 5 minutes into La Roche's first overtime game of the season. Today's victory snaps a three game losing streak for the Redhawks and improves their record at home to 3-1.

Final: La Roche: 1, Mt. Aloysius: 0

Records: La Roche (4-5), Mt. Aloysius (5-2-3)

Synopsis:  Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first 90 minutes of play in today's match. The Mounties outshot the Redhawks 17-6 heading into overtime, but Junior goalkeeper Isabelle Orange (Latrobe, PA) held strong in net for the Redhaws stopping all five of Mt. Aloysious shots on goal. Tonight's performance is Orange's second shutout of the season and third in her career.

Once the match headed to overtime, La Roche took control. The Redhawks recorded an impressive four shots on goal in 5 minutes of action. The game winning play began when Sophomore forward Alondra Gonzalez (Beaver Falls, PA) dribbled the ball past defenders to the top of the goal box where she ripped a shot that was deflected to Claypool who lofted the ball over Mt. Aloysius' goalie, off the crossbar, and into the back of the net. The game winner is Claypool's first goal since September 3rd and second this season.

NEXT UP: The Redhawks continue their conference schedule this Saturday at home against Alfred St. Game-time begins at 4:15 p.m.
