Mineard Has Immediate Impact in Return Against D'Youville

BUFFALO, Ny. - Women's soccer lost their conference opener this afternoon to D'Youville College at Dobson Field 2-1 despite a late effort push by two Redhawk Freshmen. The match marks La Roche's third straight loss this season.

D'Youville drew first blood in the 7th minute of the match when Junior forward Cassie Brooks crossed the ball from the right side of the net 20 yards to the center of the goal area where Junior forward Makenna Magee lofted the ball off her right foot over Junior goalkeeper Isabelle Orange. The Spartans had a 1-0 lead heading into the half.

In the 56th minute of the match, Senior forward Marina Campbell of D'Youville dribbled the ball into the goal area where she was tripped up by a Redhawk defender and was awarded a penalty kick that she buried into the lower-left side of the goal.

After missing La Roche's previous two games, Freshman forward Ashley Mineard brought the Redhawks within one when she battled through traffic and headed the ball into the top left corner of the net off a beautifully placed corner kick from Freshman midfielder Kaylyn Cannon in the 71st minute of the match. Mineard now has three goals on the season, tied for most on the team. Cannon now leads the team on the season with two assists. It is the first goal the Redhawks have scored since Mineard's last performance against Muskingum on September 13th.

La Roche showed up on the stat sheet once again outshooting D'Youville 8-7 (5-5 in shots on goal). It is the second straight performace the Redhawks have outshot their opponents and came up short.
