Freshman Leads Redhawks to First Victory

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - In their second game of the year, La Roche defeated the visiting Waynesburg Yellow Jackets by a score of 3-2 in a back and forth mathchup.

In the first half, the Redhawks struck first when Freshman forward Ashley Mineard played a ball off a defender and ripped a shot from just inside the box to give La Roche a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute.

The second goal would come shortly into the second half when La Roche Sophomore forward Piper Claypool took a shot from 25 yards out that sailed over the goalie's head and into the back of the net to give her team a 2-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets answered quickly when Junior midfielder Jessica Silbaugh found the back of the net off a corner kick from her teammate Teagan Jenner to bring Waynesburg within one. Then, Jenner scored on her own in the 58th minute to tie the contest.

Late in the game, Mineard proved she was clutch when she scored the go-ahead goal off an assist from Rylee Pucci in the 81st minute to give the Redhawks their first victory on the season.
