Women's Soccer Sends Seniors Off With Win

PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche women's soccer team closed the 2018 season with a 2-1 victory over Penn State Altoona. Alondra Gonzalez scored twice while Kerri Phillis and Marissa Johnson provided assists.

The Redhawks came out with motivation to send their seniors off with a victory. Alondra Gonzalez got things on track early as La Roche jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Kerri Phillis weaved her way through the Penn State Altoona defense and sent a ball that tiptoed the goal line. Gonzalez tapped it in for the finish.

Gonzalez gave the Redhawks a 2-0 in the eighth minute. Marissa Johnson sent a perfectly placed thru ball to Gonzalez, who made one cut and struck it past the keeper.

Jessica Welka was aided by the crossbar on a free kick in the thirteenth minute. Penn State Altoona headed in a cross in the thirty-seventh minute.

The Redhawks dropped back into a more defensive style in the second half. La Roche limited Penn State Altoona scoring opportunities and Isabelle Orange came up with a pair of big saves.

La Roche outshot Penn State Altoona 21-12. Welka made 4 saves and Orange 2 saves.
