The La Roche woman's soccer team claimed victory on the road in a non-conference game at Thiel College on a Monday evening. La Roche improves to 2-2 while Thiel falls to 0-5.
Carly Wilson scored the first two goals with one assisted by Alondra Gonzalez. Marissa Johnson netted the third goal off a free kick just outside the box. Kerri Phillis scored the game winning goal with a long ball into the back of the net. La Roche outshot Thiel 15-3 and capitalized the corners by 5-0.
Wilson set the tone with a goal in the third minute, struck from outside the box to give the Redhawks a 1-0 lead. Thiel tied it midway through the first half with a finished cross inside the six.
The Redhawks fought hard and attacked the Thiel net. La Roche was rewarded with a goal, a finished shot by Wilson which was assisted across the box by Gonzalez. Minutes before halftime, Thiel snuck a rebound finish into the net for a 2-2 tied game at intermission.
La Roche came out with intensity and drive in the second half. In the forty-seventh minute, Phillis finished the ball into the corner of the Thiel net to give the Redhawks a 3-2 lead. The offense continued to bring pressure and attack the Thiel defense. Thiel came out with aggression giving the Redhawks a free kick just outside the box in the seventy-first minute.
Johnson took advantage and scored the last goal of the game, giving the Redhawks a 4-2 advantage.
The defense stayed strong and called three offside traps against Thiel. The Redhawks came out on top with a 4-2 win.
La Roche will look for their second straight victory on Friday when they host Grove City.
