Own Goal Lifts D'Youville Past La Roche

BUFFALO, NY -- The La Roche women's soccer team played a stellar all-around game but were unable to come away with a road conference win. The Redhawks held a 1-0 halftime lead but were sunk by an own goal, falling 2-1.

The Redhawks had plenty of scoring chances in the first half and came through with a goal in the twenty-second minute. Vanessa Ceravolo already had two shots on goal when she buried a Ryleigh Gapzinski feed for her forty-ninth career goal. Ceravolo climbs into fifth place on La Roche's all-time points list and is now just one goal shy of becoming the Redhawks' fourh player with fifty career.

Despite La Roche having four times more shots, D'Youville took a 2-1 lead in the sixty-second minute. Makenna Magee provided the first tally and an own goal allowed the Spartans to take the lead.

The Redhawks attempted four more shots following the own goal, however they could not beat D'Youville's Megan Dulniak who turned away all four attempts.

La Roche outshot D'Youville 21-12 and Isabelle Orange made seven saves.

The Redhawks head to Penn State Altoona on Tuesday.
