Redhawks Defend Home Field, Defeat St. Vincent 2-1

PITTSBURGH, PA – The La Roche women's soccer team successfully defended their home turf with a 2-1 victory over St. Vincent College.

Allie Perri, Vanessa Ceravolo and Kerri Phillis all had quality scoring chances early. Despite controlling play, St. Vincent struck first. Goalkeeper Jessica Welka made two tough stops before the Bearcats Calsey Holshue curled a ball into the top left corner and a 1-0 lead.

Ceravolo provided her first goal of the year in the fortieth minute. She cut through the defense and buried it just left of the keeper.

Ceravolo netted her second of the game fourteen minutes into the second half on a Perri helper. Perri chipped the ball over the Bearcat defense and Ceravolo made a quick outside-inside move for the score.

St. Vincent brought the pressure late and tested the La Roche defense. The young keeper Isabelle Orange was terrific and helped the Redhawks preserve the 2-1 victory.

The Redhawks lit up the scoresheet with 19 shots. Ceravolo provided 9 shots while Phillis had 4 and Perri 3.

La Roche will look for two in a row when they host Thiel on Sunday.
