Women's Soccer Scores Early But Falls in Opener at Geneva

BEAVER, PA -- The La Roche women's soccer team scored early but could not hang on in their 2-1 loss at Geneva.

It did not take long for Sam Chambers to make her presence felt as she scored just five minutes into her collegiate career. Chambers took a Ryleigh Gapzinski feed and buried it just five minutes into the game.

Kerri Phillis nearly increased the gap to two but Geneva found the equalizer in the twenty-sixth minute and that score remained into the half.

The Redhawks came out of the lockerroom with three straight shots but could never find the winner. La Roche was held without a shot over the final twenty-six minutes and despite quality defense, allowed the go-ahead goal in the eighty-third minute.

Goalkeeper Jessica Welka made four saves.
