ZAJAC MAKES 6 SAVES AS LADY REDHAWKS FALL

PITTSBURGH, PA -- Despite an early 1-0 lead and great play by junior goalkeeper Raelene Zajac, host La Roche College (0-3) fell to Waynesburg University (1-2-1) 2-1 in a non-conference game at Redhawks Field. Both La Roche and Waynesburg had quality chances in the first half but only the Lady Redhawks capitalized. After failing to score on two great chances in the third and sixth minutes, freshman midfielder Taylor Breen took a Yellow Jacket turnover and ripped it past the Waynesburg goalkeeper for her first career goal and a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, the Lady Redhawks nearly made it 2-0 but sophomore midfielder Marina Mattone sailed Carly Sorco's throw-in only inches over the crossbar. Waynesburg's first quality scoring chance came in the 25th minute, but La Roche junior goalkeeper Raelene Zajac made a great diving save. Yellow Jacket midfielder Taylor Augustine made an inside-outside move to get a cross off but Danielle Danhires could not get it past Zajac. Zacjac made another key save shortly before the half to keep the lead at one. La Roche had opportunities early and often in the second half but could not get one to go in the back of the net. The Lady Redhawks best chance came when sophomore forward Bethanie Moreschi headed a Breen corner kick only inches over the crossbar. The Lady Redhawks inability to score late shifted momentum in Waynesburg's favor and the Yellow Jackets finally got on the board when forward Courtney Ebersole beat Zajac. Defender Terrin Crist scored ten minutes later to take a 2-1 lead and the win. Lady Redhawks junior goalkeeper made six saves in the loss. La Roche Women's Soccer will travel to Chatham University on Friday, September 10 at 4:00PM to take on the Cougars.
