PITTSBURGH, PA - Women's Lacrosse opened United East conference play this afternoon against the Mount Aloysius Mounties. The Redhawks battled through rain, blinding sun, and gusts of wind so large a pause in the game was needed to secure the goals. 

La Roche kept pace with the Mounties for most of the first half. Kinsey Sperling opened up the first goal of the game assisted by Kate McCallister. 

At the half, the team was only down by 3 goals. However, the third period got away from them and they suddenly found themselves at a 6-goal deficit going into the final period. But anyone who knows anything about the women's lacrosse team knows they fight hard until the very end. 

The Redhawks came back in the fourth period and scored 4 goals unanswered by the Mounties. This scoring rally was seen at the hands of McCallister, Fittipaldo, Cece Liguori, and Jade Fuccaro. Brooklyn Vucetich, Tea Smith, and Sperling assisted them in their fight back against Mount Aloysius. 

Despite the Redhawks' battle back against the Mounties, they fell just short of earning the victory. 

Liguori led the offense this afternoon with 3 goals, 6 ground balls, and 4 turnovers. She also accomplished another incredible career feat and earned her 100th Draw Control win this afternoon!

Fittiipaldo followed suit earning 2 goals, 1 assist, 1 ground ball, and 1 caused turnover. 

Vucetich, Sperling, McCallister, Fuccaro, and Smith each netted one goal. Sperling led the team in assists with 2. 

Jules Hornikel once again defended the La Roche goal for the entirety of the contest. The freshman stopped 14 shots from reaching the back of the net, while also causing 2 turnovers and scooping of 3 ground balls of her own. 

The Redhawks will open up the month of April with a home game on the 5th against a conference opponent, Lancaster Bible. The first draw control is at 4 PM.
