Redhawks Collect Two Wins at Altoona Quad Match; Place 3rd Overall

ALTOONA, Pa. - Women's bowling took third overall at the Penn State Altoona Quad Match on Sunday afternoon at the F.A. Gerhart Lanes at the Bavarian Aid Society.

The quad match featured four Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) teams, as Penn State Altoona welcomed Saint Vincent College, Pitt-Bradford, and La Roche University.

Saint Vincent placed first at the match, going 4-0 and totaling 3,396 pins. Pitt-Bradford was the runner-up, accumulating 2,731 pins to go along with a 1-3 record. La Roche went 2-2 on the day placing third with 2,826 pins, and Penn State Altoona came in fourth with 2,670 pins and a 1-3 record.

The match started with three rounds of five-game baker format matches decided by total pinfall. La Roche went 1-2 in the round robin portion of the event.

In the first match, La Roche was bested by Saint Vincent College (18-1) by a pin score of 636-841. In the second match on the day, LRU collected it's first win of the season against Penn St. Altoona. After getting out to a dominating 291-187 lead through the first two games, the Redhawks never looked back and would go on to win by a score of 680-603, their highest pin count in a 5-game baker match this year. Pitt Bradford would edge La Roche 708-679 in the final of the five-game baker sets.

The Redhawks finished the round robin in a three-way tie with Altoona and Bradford. Total pinfall would determine the seeding placing LRU at third in the consolation match with four seed, Penn St. Altoona.

The consolation match was played in a best-of-7 baker format. La Roche once again jumped out to any early lead against the lions winning the first two games 158-148 and 158-123 to gain a 2-0 lead. Altoona responded by winning the next two games, 128-112 and 138-103, to even the match at two games a piece. The Redhawks would regain their momentum and went on to win the last two games, 140-106 and 160-112, to win the consolation match 4-2.

La Roche bowled their first, second and fourth best five-game baker matches this season at the tournament.
