Redhawks Complete Perfect Conference Record With 89-64 Win Over Lions

ALTOONA, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball completed its second consecutive undefeated conference regular season, defeating Penn State Altoona 89-64 in the regular season finale.

The first quarter opened with the Redhawks starting out with a 6-0 lead behind a pair of triples in the opening 1:04.

The Lions would rebuttle, tying the game at 6-6 just 1:34 seconds later.

La Roche took over the lead and over time saw Altoona tie the game, but the Redhawks would be behind by the 3:50 mark as the Lions opened a lead of 16-13.

La Roche's response was a 5-0 run to regain the lead, but the Lions received a pair of free-throws as time ran out to make it 18-18 going into the second.

The Redhawks were aggressive early in the second quarter, using a 9-2 run in the first 3:07 to take a 27-20 lead.

By the 3:53 remaining mark of the contest, La Roche opened a double-digit, 10-point lead of 34-24 and the Redhawks would only build upon it, taking a 47-30 lead into the half.

La Roche briefly opened the lead back up to eight after a 4-0 run, but a 5-2 stretch by the Celtics ended the half to make it 32-27 at the break.

Out of the locker room, the Redhawks were in complete control, opening a 26-point, 61-35 lead with 6:43 left in the third, and a game high, 29-point lead of 68-39 with 3:32 to go in the quarter.

Altoona did end the third quarter strong, as well as open the fourth quarter, using an 18-3 run over the remaining 3:12 of the third and the first 2:49 of the fourth to cut the deficit to 71-57.

The response by La Roche was a run of its own, a 12-3 run that lasted from 7:11 remaining until 1:10 to go, reopening a 23-points, 83-60 lead, allowing it to cruise to victory.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 45.1% (32-for-71) from the floor and 13-for-28 (46.4%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 12-for-19 (63.2%).

On the other side, the Lions went on to shoot 41% (25-for-61) from the field, 7-for-18 (38.9%) from deep and 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the foul line.

Three Redhawks went on to score in double figures, with Dasja Anderson leading the charge.

Anderson put together a 20-point performance to go alongside five rebounds and four assists.

Machia Hairston recorded her 14th double-double, scoring 19 points with 14t rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal, while Alexis Robison netted 11 points.

With the regular season concluded and home court advantage as the top seed in the AMCC locked up, the Redhawks will await to find out who they host in the AMCC Tournament Semifinals.

La Roche will meet the winner of #4 Pitt-Greensburg and #5 Mt. Aloysius at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 in the Kerr Fitness Center.
