Second Half Surge Leads Redhawks To Victory Over Bobcats 97-69

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball used a huge second half to pull away from Pitt-Greensburg and extend its streak to 11 straight wins, defeating the Bobcats 97-69.

The first quarter opened with the Redhawks starting out with a 10-2 run and ultimately pushed the lead to 19-8.

UPG ended the first with an 8-0 to make it a 19-16 score going into the second quarter.

La Roche reopened a seven-point, 25-18 lead with 6:05 to go in the first half, but the Bobcats kept clawing back, cutting the deficit to just two at one point, but the Redhawks would hold a slim 35-31 lead going into the break

Out of the locker room, the Redhawks would catch some fire, upping the lead to double digits and never allowing it to drop below six points.

With 1:29 to go in the third, UPG made it a 61-54 game, then La Roche put the game away, using a 14-0 run that ultimately ended up being a total run of 19-2, that lasted midway into the fourth quarter, opening a 24-point, 80-56 lead and never looked back.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 46.8% (37-for-79) from the floor and 12-for-28 (42.9%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 11-for-13 (84.6%).

On the other side, the Bobcats went on to shoot 45% (27-for-60) from the field, 4-for-21 (19%) from deep and 11-for-15 (73.3%) from the foul line.

Three Redhawks went on to score in double figures, with all three hitting for at least 20 points.

Machia Hairston put together a double-double of 31 points, 12 rebounds and four steals to lead the way for La Roche

Alexis Robison followed with 20 points behind six three-pointers, adding seven rebounds and three assists, while Makayla Abram scored her 1,000th career point, becoming the 16th Redhawk to accomplish the feat, netting 20 points to go alongside seven rebounds.

La Roche concludes regular season play at home on Saturday, Jan. 10, when the Redhawks host Wells. Senior Day will take place pregame as Hairston will be honored and opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
