Hairston Recahes 1,000 Milestone, Redhawks Cruise to 103-66 Victory

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball clinched its spot in the AMCC Tournament on Saturday afternoon, defeating Pitt-Bradford 103-66.

Machia Hairston etched her name in La Roche history, scoring her 1,000th career point, becoming the 15th player in Redhawk history to reach that mark.

The first quarter was an offensive explosion, as La Roche put up 25 points in the quarter, countering the 16 points scored by the Panthers.

The second quarter was dominated by the Redhawks, shooting a remarkable 60.9% from the floor in the frame, scoring 34 points and holding Bradford to 13 to take a huge 59-29 lead into the locker room.

Out of the break, the Panthers started strong, but La Roche held serve, scoring another 27 points to grow the lead to 86-50 headed to the fourth and cruised to the eventual 103-66 win.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 59.1% (39-for-66) from the floor and 8-for-21 (38.1%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 17-for-20 (85%).

On the other side, the Panthers went on to shoot 44.4% (24-for-54) from the field, 6-for-20 (30%) from three and 12-for-16 (75%) from the free-throw line.

Five Redhawks hit for double figures, with Hairston and Makayla Abram leading the charge for La Roche.

Hairston hit for 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting to go alongside nine rebounds, while Abram's 22 points went with four rebounds and a pair of steals.

Dasja Anderson followed with 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Alexis Robison netted 17 off the bench with three steals and Jazmine Dunn earned a double-double with 12 points, 10 assists and six rebounds.

La Roche stays home and hosts Penn State-Behrend on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.
