Redhawks Dominate Second Half To Push Past Hawks 80-50

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball continued its roll in conference play, defeating Hilbert 80-50 on Saturday afternoon.

It was an even opening quarter, as the Hawks jumped ahead 6-0, then the Redhawks used an 8-0 run of their own to gain the lead. It was back-and-forth the rest of the way, with La Roche holding a 21-20 edge at the end of the quarter.

Still leading throughout the second half, by a score of 30-26, a 10-0 Redhawks run opened a 14-point lead, but Hilbert scored the last six points of the half as the score read 40-32 heading into the locker rooms.

Out of the break, it was all La Roche, outscoring the Hawks 21-8 in the third quarter and 19-10 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

For the game, La Roche shot 45.2% (33-for-73) from the floor and 5-for-18 (27.8%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 9-for-10 (90%).

On the other side, Hilbert went on to shoot just 40.4% (19-for-47) from the field, 6-for-20 (30%) from three and 6-for-8 (75%) from the free-throw line.

Four Redhawks hit for double-figures, with freshman Danielle Allen's 25 points led the charge to go alongside three assists and two steals.

Makayla Abram netted 16 points, three rebounds, a pair of assists, three steals and a block, while Jazmine Dunn score 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists and Breanna Clemons also hit for 13 points with six rebounds.

Machia Hairston scored seven points to go alongside a team best 10 rebounds.

La Roche takes to the road on Wednesday, Jan. 10 when they travel to Greensburg, Pa. to face Pitt-Greensburg. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
