Hot Shooting Redhawks Topple Tomcats 99-70

GREENVILLE, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball shot lights out Saturday afternoon, leading to a 99-70 victory over Thiel in non-conference action.

It was all Redhawks from the onset, who jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first 1:50 of play, and ultimately put up 30 in the first quarter to lead 30-19.

After a three-pointer by the Tomcats opened the second quarter to make it a single-digit lead of 30-22, another 10-0 run from La Roche reopened an 18-point, 40-22 edge.

Thiel would trim the deficit ever so slightly before halftime, as the Redhawks held a 49-36 lead going into the locker room.

Out of the break, La Roche used the first 3:56 of the quarter to open a 20-point, 61-41 lead, followed by a late 11-1 run to lead to push the margin up to 71-48 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth, another huge run by the Redhawks began with 6:24 remaining, lasting 2:19, a 13-0 run to grow the lead to 92-57, before closing out the victory,

For the game, La Roche shot an incredible 63.2% (43-for-68) from the floor and 4-for-13 (30.8%) from deep. From the charity stripe, they went 9-for-14 (64.3%).

On the other side, the Tomcats went on to shoot 36.9% (24-for-65) from the field, 14-for-36 (38.9%) from three and 8-for-10 (80%) from the free-throw line.

Three Redhawks hit double figures, with Machia Hairston having a remarkable afternoon, scoring 35 points on 16-for-18 shooting from the floor, adding 17 rebounds for the double-double, five assists and five steals.

Jazmine Dunn lit up the scoreboard for 26 points on 11-for-18 shooting to go alongside seven assists and five steals, while Makayla Abram netted 17 points on 8-for-13 shooting with seven rebounds and three assists.

La Roche now heads into the holiday break and returns to the floor on Saturday, Dec. 30 when it travels to Kent, Ohio for a matchup against NCAA Division I's Kent State. Opening tip is set for 4 p.m.
