Redhawks Cruise To 13th Straight AMCC Opening Victory, Top Mounties 75-54

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball cruised past Mt. Aloysius 75-54 to open AMCC play, the 13th consecutive AMCC opener won by the Redhawks.

La Roche opened fast in the opening quarter, jumping ahead 10-3 over the first 5:38 and would eventual take a 20-14 lead into the second quarter.

The Redhawks opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run, storming ahead 29-14, a double-digit lead that would never go away, pushing the edge to as many as 23, before closing the half ahead 46-25.

Out of the break, La Roche used another 6-0 run to lead by 27, and continued to hold steady, leading 60-36 heading into the final quarter.

21 points was the closest the Mounties would bring the game in the fourth quarter, a 62-41 score, before the Redhawks went on to score 11 of the next 14 points to lead by a game-high 29 points, 73-44.

It was too little too late for Mt. Aloysius, despite scoring 10 of the final 12 points, as La Roche sealed the victory.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 38.5% (25-for-65) from the floor and 6-for-23 (26.1%) from deep. From the charity stripe, however, La Roche went 19-for-23 (82.6%).

On the other side, the Mounties went on to shoot 35.1% (20-for-57) from the field, 3-for-19 (15.8%) from three and 11-for-17 (64.7%) from the free-throw line.

The Redhawks got a big game from Makayla Abram, leading La Roche with a 23 point, 11 rebound double-double, with three steals and a block as well.

Danielle Allen netted 12 points to follow, while Jazmine Dunn scored 11 points with three rebounds and six assists, equaled by Alexis Robison who also had 11 points.

La Roche looks to make it 28 consecutive AMCC victories, when the host Alfred State on Saturday, Dec. 2. Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m.
