Redhawks Bounce Back With 58-42 Victory Over Quakers

WILMINGTON, Ohio – La Roche women's basketball bounced back on Saturday in the Fred Raizk Memorial Classic, taking down host Wilmington 58-42.

The first quarter was a defensive battle, as the score stood at just 9-9 through the opening 10 minutes.

The Redhawks opened the second quarter with a brief 4-0 run to take a 13-9 lead, and held the Quakers scoreless through the first 3:41.

Overall, La Roche outscored Wilmington 16-10 in the quarter and took a slim 25-19 lead into the half.

Out of the break, the Redhawks scored 13 of the quarter's first 18 points to grow a 38-24 lead, but would be outscored 10-3 over the third quarter's final 3:08 to hold a 41-34 lead going into the fourth.

To open the final quarter, the Quakers continued its run, trimming their deficit to 41-38 in the first 1:34 of the frame, but La Roche was relentless, outscoring Wilmington 17-4 in the final 7:52 of the contest to seal the victory.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 35.3% (18-for-51) from the floor and 1-for-14 (7.1%) from deep. From the charity stripe, however, La Roche went 21-for-29 (72.4%).

On the other side, the Quakers went on to shoot 27.3% (15-for-55) from the field, 2-for-17 (11.8%) from three and 10-for-15 (66.7%) from the free-throw line.

Leading the Redhawks offensively for the second straight game was Makayla Abram, with a game high 15 points, six rebounds and a pair of steals.

Machia Hairston secured her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 16 boards, while Alexis Robison added 14 points to go with five boards.

Jazmine Dunn was the fourth La Roche player in double figures, scoring 10 to go with four boards, five assists and five steals.

The Redhawks conclude their four game road trip on Tuesday, Nov. 21 when they face Baldwin-Wallace in Berea, Ohio. Opening tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
