Redhawks Dominate Barons In Season Opener 106-57

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's basketball opened the 2023-24 in dominant fashion, extending its regular season winning streak to 16 games, defeating Franciscan 106-57.

The Redhawks dominated from the opening tip, outscoring the Barons 28-10 in the opening quarter, as the La Roche lead never dropped below four points after the opening two points of the game.

To start the second quarter, the Redhawk lead grew to 20, at 30-10, and after the Barons cut the deficit ever so slightly to 16, La Roche continued to click on all cylinders, taking a 53-26 lead into the locker room.

Out of the break, the Redhawks continued to tack on to their lead, growing the edge to 79-41 through three quarters and then added on even more in the fourth, by as many as 51 points, until the final buzzer sounded.

For the game, La Roche shot 56.7% (38-for-67) from the floor, and a fantastic 13-for-25 (52%) from deep. From the charity stripe, the Redhawks went 17-for-21 (81%).

On the other side, La Roche limited Franciscan to 34.4% (21-for-61) from the field, 3-for-15 (20%) from three and a tough 12-for-22 (54.5%).

All five starters reached double figures for the Redhawks, with junior Alexis Robison having a game high 23 points to go along with six rebounds and a pair of steals and assists.

Two ladies finished the night with a double-double, as fifth year Machia Hairston ended the night with 20 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and three steals, while sophomore Jazmine Dunn's double-double consisted of 19 points, 11 assists and five steals.

Freshman Danielle Allen shined in her collegiate debut with 18 points behind 5-for-10 shooting from three, six assists, three rebounds and three steals, while junior Makayla Abram ended the night with 17 points, five rebounds and three steals.

La Roche now prepares for a four game road swing that begins on Tuesday, Nov. 14 when it travels to Buffalo, N.Y. for a matchup against Buffalo State. Opening tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
