Redhawks Win AMCC Game of the Week at D'Youville

BUFFALO, NY - La Roche women's basketball improved to 14-1 in conference play this afternoon after taking down the D'Youville Spartans on the road, 71-60. The Redhawks are now 3-0 in AMCC Game of the Week's this season, winning all of them by double-digits. A season-high three Redhawks finished with double-double's in today's contest. 

Ayanna Mazyck scored a game-high 20 points and added 10 rebounds, recording her fourth double-double of the season. Mazyck has averaged 16.3 points per game over her last six contests. 

Shaundrea Butler finished with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, picking up her second career double-double. Butler was just one assist shy of recording a triple-double, posting nine assists, tying her season-high.

Dasja Anderson went for 12 points and a game-high 12 boards. Anderson has averaged 11.5 rebounds in her last four games and has shot 60% (36-60) from the floor in her last five. 

Jenna Cole provided 17 points (2nd most on team), seven rebounds and a block while shooting a perfect 3 of 3 from beyond the arc.

La Roche pulled away in the second quarter of today's game and never looked back. The Redhawks out-scored the Spartans 25-13 in the second while shooting an incredible 63% (10-16) from the field.

How it Happened

The Redhawks jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first five minutes of today's contest with the help of two 3-PT from Mazyck. The Spartans responded with an 8-2 run over the next two minutes to make it a one point game. The quarter would end La Roche up 18-16. The teams shot a combined 13 of 43 (30%) from the floor in the first. 

In the second quarter, LRU's offense caught fire. The Redhawks opened up the quarter on a 12-0 run, knocking down seven of their first eight shots. La Roche would outscore D'Youville 25-13 in the second, leading by 14 heading into halftime. 

LRU maintained their lead throughout the third, leading by double-digits for the entirety of the quarter. With 2:51 to play in the fourth, the Spartans hit a jump shot to make it a nine point game, but that is as close as they got. La Roche has won by double-digits in each of their last six victories. 

Inside the Box Score

The Redhawks dominated on the glass once again, out-rebounding the Spartans 52-36. La Roche has grabbed 105 boards over their last two games. The Redhawks have only eclipsed 50 rebounds three times this season. 

LRU dished out 16 assists compared to D'Youville's seven. The Redhawks have recorded 15 or more assists in each of their last three contests. 

La Roche nailed 10 of 12 free-throw attempts (83%). 

The Redhawks scored 17 of their 71 total points on second chances. 

Diamond-Jay (DJ) Whittington provided four rebounds, three blocks, two points and an assist in 11 minutes of action. 

Sara Pfeiffer and Danielle Hore combined for 36 of D'Youville's 60 points. The Redhawks held Pfeiffer, who has averaged over 20 points a game since transferring to D'Youville, to 33% shooting.
