Well-Balanced Effort Leads Redhawks to Sixth Straight Win

ALFRED, N.Y. - La Roche women's basketball extended their win streak to six games Wednesday night after taking down the Alfred St. Pioneers, 83-65. The Redhawks have won 12 straight regular season conference games dating back to last season.

La Roche, now 7-0 in AMCC play, moved the ball with fluidity against the Pioneers, posting a season-high 26 assists on 34 field goals. The mark is the most assists in a single game by the Redhawks since February 11th, 2017.

A whopping five Redhawks finished in double-digit scoring figures on the evening led by Sophomore guard Danajah Sanders (Cleveland, OH/Brush) who tied her season-high with 15 points while shooting 7 of 15 (47%) from the floor. (Dasja Anderson: 14, Shaundrea Butler: 14, Jenna Cole: 13, Ayanna Mazyck: 13)

Junior guard Shaundrea Butler (Cleveland, OH/Twinsburg) put together one her most well-rounded performances of the season finishing with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal while shooting an efficient 6 of 9 (67%) from the field and 2 of 3 (67%) from beyond the arc.

How it Happened

The Pioneers jumped out to an 11-6 lead early on after an Alfred St. three-pointer. Then, the Redhawks put together an 18-10 run to jump ahead 24-21 after one quarter of action. Jenna Cole scored 9 of her 13 total points in the first quarter while shooting 4 of 6 from the field.

La Roche slowly but surely began to build on their lead in the second, going up by 11 points with 2:47 remaining in the half before allowing Alfred St. to go on a 5-0 run. The Redhawks led 44-38 after 20 minutes of action.

In the third quarter, the Redhawks offense erupted, outscoring the Pioneers 21-9 to go up 65-47 heading into the fourth.

The Redhawks were able to maintain their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter and would go on to win by 18 points.

La Roche shot 18 of 33 (55%) from the field in the first and fourth quarter's of today's contest and 34 of 70 (49%) overall.

The black and red committed a season-low nine turnovers and allowed only 10 points off those giveaways.

The Redhawks defense made key adjustments after the first half. Alfred St. shot 18 of 27 (67%) in the first/second quarters and 11 of 35 (31%) in the third/fourth quarters. The Pioneers were limited to just three total field goals in the third quarter.

Jenna Cole nearly finished with her first double-double of the season recording 13 points and 9 rebounds while shooting 6 of 9 (67%) from the field. Cole is only 11 points away from becoming the 14th Redhawk to join the 1,000 point club.

Ayanna Mazyck scored 13 of LRU's 24 bench points. In only 17 minutes of action, the former AMCC Player of the Week (12/23) shot 6 of 11 from the field and recorded 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks and an assist in her limited time.

Dasja Anderson finished with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and shot a perfect 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.

LRU shot 9 of 12 (75%) from the free-throw line, a significant improvement from their last two games which they shot a combined 11 of 34 (32%).
