Redhawks Power Past Panthers, 72-47

McCANDLESS, Pa. - La Roche women's basketball improved to 2-0 vs. AMCC opponents after defeating visiting Pitt Bradford earlier today handily, 72-47. Today's 25 point win is the Redhawks largest margin of victory this season. In both conference contests this season, the Redhawks have won by 20 or more points. LRU moved the ball with fluidity, posting a season-high 21 assists on 27 made field goals. The Redhawks were strong defensively, holding the Panthers to 16-52 (31%) FG and 2-8 (25%) 3-PT while picking up 14 steals. Bradford's 47 points in today's contest is the lowest point total by a La Roche opponent this season.

How it Happened

La Roche jumped out to a 13-5 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back. Five different Redhawks scored in the first 10 minutes alone. The five points scored by the Panthers was their lowest mark in a first quarter this season.

In the second quarter of the contest, LRU outscored UPB 20-8 while shooting an impressive 8-13 (62%) from the field. Sophomore forward Dasja Anderson hit a mid-range jumper as time expired off a feed from teammate Shaundrea Butler to give the Redhawks a 33-13 lead heading into halftime. Anderson was a perfect 5-5 from the field and 2-2 from the line after 20 minutes of play, she had a game-high 12 points heading into the break.

With seven minutes remaining in the fourth, Shaundrea Butler layed the ball in off an assist from Ayanna Mazyck to give La Roche a 34-point lead, their largest of the game. The Redhawks maintained throughout the rest of the game, but only outscored the Panthers 39-34 in the final two quarters of play.

Dasja Anderson tied her career-high with 20 points on an impressive 8-10 FG. The last time she put up 20 was her Freshman year on February 16, 2019 at Penn St. Altoona. Anderson also led the Redhawks with six rebounds.

Two other Redhawks finished in double-digit scoring figures (Jenna Cole: 10, Danajah Sanders: 10).

As a unit, LRU shot 27-54 from the field (50%), their second best shooting percentage in a game this season. 

Shaundrea Butler nearly finished the game with a double-double, recording 9 points and a season-high 9 assists.

Off the bench, Freshman Janessa Goins had an astonishing game-high three blocks in only three minutes of play. 

La'Shyra Williams led with 17 points on 5-13 FG for the Panthers.
