Strong Second Half Helps Women's Hoops Past Mt. Aloysius, Maintain Lead In AMCC Conference

CRESSON, PA -- A strong second half helped La Roche College women's basketball top Mt. Aloysius 67-50 and maintain a lead in the AMCC Conference. The Redhawks will clinch the AMCC Regular Season Title if they defeat Penn State Altoona on Saturday.

The Redhawks got off to a slow start as Mt. Aloysius climbed ahead by as many as six points in the first quarter. La Roche gained momentum with a 7-0 run and a 26-21 lead in the second quarter, but the Mounties ran off six straight and 27-26 halftime advantage. The Redhawks shot just 30% in the first half.

La Roche turned things around in the second half, outscoring the Mounties 42-23. The Redhawks shot 65% from the floor and hit 6 of 10 three-pointers. They also dominated the glass over the final twenty minutes.

La Roche quietly built the lead out of the lockerroom, jumping to a seven point advantage with a Shaundrea Butler three-pointer at the 7:33 mark of the third. The Redhawks traded baskets with the Mounties with Farmer hitting a three and a Jenna Cole jumper giving La Roche an eight point advantage entering the fourth.

The Redhawks followed a Mountie make to start the fourth with a pair of Farmer three-pointers and a twelve point lead. La Roche went on a 7-0 run midway through the quarter and never looked back, earning the seventeen point victory.

Cole finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Anderson had 18 points while Farmer scored 17 and buried 5 of 6 three-pointers. Danajah Sanders and Dalesza Regan had strong defensive games with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Butler dished out 6 assists.

The Redhawks had a solid shooting day, converting 50% from the field and 44% from long range.
