Women's Hoops Clinches AMCC Tournament Berth With Victory at Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, PA -- The La Roche women's basketball team put up another impressive performance against Pitt-Bradford, winning 72-55. The Redhawks clinch an AMCC Tournament berth with the victory.

It was a slow start as the Redhawks found themselves down 17-8 at the end of the first quarter.

But they began to come back in the second quarter with a 7-0 run. La Roche exploded and put up 27 points in the second quarter, bringing them back in front at 38-28.

From then on it was smooth sailing. After a few minutes into the third quarter, the Redhawks consistently held a lead of at least 8 points until the end of the game. Displaying a pursuit of aggressive defense, and patient basketball. La Roche really showed how to close a game.

The team finished shooting 47.4% from the field, 27.8% from behind the ark, and a miraculous 86.7% from the free throw line.

The Redhawks had less turnovers (16) than Pitt-Bradford (24). La Roche collected 28 points off these turnovers, showing once again a successful opportunistic style of play.

La Roche guard Danajah Sanders, came off the bench and played 34 minutes. She put up 32 points, including 12 on three pointers. 25 of her points came in the second and third quarters when she helped lead the team's offense to come back and win the game.

Forward Jenna Cole contributed 15 points. Forward Sidney Farmer produced 11 points on the day. Shaundrea Butler led the team in assists with 8.

The Redhawks still sit in second place in the conference behind Hilbert who has a game in hand. They have an 11-3 record while Hilbert has an 11-2 record.

The team's next game will be at Franciscan this Wednesday the 6th of February at 6pm.
