Women's Hoops Rolls Past Franciscan 87-41

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The Redhawks soared past Franciscan, picking up an 87-41 victory in Wednesday night action at the Kerr Fitness Center. La Roche improves to 8-6 on the season and maintains a half game lead in the AMCC standings. 

Dalesza Regan picked off a pass in the open court to give the Redhawks the night's opening points. Franciscan converted on the opposite end, but Nia Thomas followed with a layup and then buried a three at the top of the key.

Regan added a layup and Jenna Cole a short range jumper to force a Barons timeout at 11-2 and 4:58 left in the first quarter. The Redhawks stormed out of the timeout with eight straight points. Danajah Sanders and Sidney Farmer provided three pointers. The Redhawks added another bucket and carried a 22-5 lead into the second quarter.

Franciscan slowed the Redhawks early in the second quarter. Thomas helped La Roche break it open with a three at the 5:18 mark. Sanders followed with four straight points for a 36-12 lead with 2:49 left in the half. She then buried a buzzer beater three-pointer for a 43-16 halftime lead.

Sanders and Thomas each hit 3 three-pointers as the Redhawks went 7 for 14 from long range at the half. Regan entered the half with 8 points.

Cole converted a three-point play early in the second half. Sanders continued her strong shooting with two straight three-pointers as the Redhawks took a 56-28 lead. Regan forced a turnover and hit a contested layup right before Thomas beat the buzzer for a thirty point lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

La Roche continued to soar in the fourth quarter, earning the forty-six point victory. 

Sanders finished with a game-high 24 points and hit 5 of 8 three-pointers. Thomas had a strong game with 21 points while Cole reached double-figures with 15 points. Regan had 12 rebounds and Butler 10 assists.
