Jenna Cole Scores 1000 Collegiate Point as Redhawks Pick Up Victory at Medaille

BUFFALO, NY -- Jenna Cole scored her 1000 collegiate point, helping the Redhawks go on the road and defeat Medaille 64-59. Cole's career total includes 397 points at Pitt-Greensburg and 615 points at La Roche. 

The Redhawks opened on a 4-0 run, winning the tip and then forcing a turnover for four Dasja Anderson points. Medaille followed with two straight three-pointers to take their first lead and they carried a small 19-15 advantage in the first stoppage.

Both teams shot well in the first quarter with La Roche hitting 7 of 11 field goals and Medaille 8 of 15 field goals. The difference came from distance where the Mavericks hit three more shots.

The Redhawks used their defense to spark an early second quarter run. La Roche outscored the Mavericks 8-0 and did not allow a point until the quarter's 5:37 mark.

Medaille cut the deficit back to three within a minute but Nia Thomas answered with a pair of three pointers and a 33-24 lead. The Mavericks responded with five straight before a Jenna Cole buzzer beater made it 35-29 at the break.

La Roche shot 60% in the first half. Cole scored 13 first half points while Shaundrea Butler dished out 5 assists and pulled down 4 boards. Anderson had 3 steals.

Butler and Cole helped the Redhawks stretch their lead to double digits with three pointers.

Medaille responded, holding La Roche to just one field goal over the next five minutes. The Mavericks closed the gap to 47-45 by the end of the third quarter.

The Redhawks quickly erased the run, racing out to eight straight fourth quarter points. Cole and Butler hit shots while Danajah Sanders drained a three. 

La Roche maintained at least a six point lead until late in the game when Medaille cut the deficit down to three. The Mavericks fouled with 10 seconds left, and Butler hit a free throw to make it a two score game.

Cole scored 21 points to break 1000 in her career. Anderson and Butler each registered 6 assists with Anderson scoring 13 points and Butler 11 points.
