PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche women's basketball team claimed a 71-60 victory against Penn State Altoona in a conference game on Saturday. La Roche improves to 3-4 on the season and 2-0 in AMCC Conference play.
Shaundrea Butler finished the game with a team-high 20 points, 10 assists and 6 steals. Dalezsa Regan had a strong game with 16 rebounds and 10 on the defensive glass. The Redhawks dominated the boards 40-32, and assists by 18-13 over Penn State Altoona.
Both teams came out strong. Altoona swept up points early and took a 14-9 lead. La Roche stayed focused and ended up tying it at the end of the 1st quarter 18-18.
The 2nd quarter mimicked the 1st. Both teams fought hard and the scored stayed 18-18 until 7 minutes left before the half. Dalezsa Regan snatched the defensive rebound only to drive down the court and score a layup. La Roche was down 28-27, with only 14 seconds left in the half. Nia Thomas grabbed the offensive rebound and passed it to Shaundrea Butler who took it in for a layup. La Roche entered the half with a 29-28 lead.
The Redhawks regrouped after intermission and dominated the 2nd half. Altoona took the lead in the beginning but it did not last long. The Redhawks ran the floor to take control of the game. Shaundrea Butler stole the ball from Altoona, and assisted Dasja Anderson for a layup. La Roche was able to keep the lead 71-60 and finished with the victory.
La Roche takes the road to Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday December 5 at 6pm.
