Cole Has Third Straight Double-Double But Redhawks Fall at Behrend

ERIE, PA -- The La Roche women's basketball team fell on Wednesday evening at Penn State Behrend 73-53. The Redhawks are 10-12 overall and tied for fourth place in the AMCC Conference at 8-7. 

Behrend opened the game on a 9-0 run and entered the first intermission with a 21-14 lead. The Redhawks struggled from the field, hitting just 4 of 19 field goals. Jenna Cole and Shaundrea Butler kept La Roche in the game and combined for all fourteen points. They were also a perfect 7 for 7 from the free throw line.

The Lions stretched their lead to eleven. The Redhawks answered with five straight points as Butler drained a three and Cole a pair of free throws. Behrend held La Roche scoreless over the next three minutes and closed the half with a 4-0 run and 40-31 halftime lead.

Behrend opened the second half with six straight points and a 46-31 lead. The Lions followed with three 3-pointers over the next three minutes to extend their lead to twenty-one at the end of the third. The Redhawks got the deficit down to fifteen points in the fourth quarter, but they were held without a field goal for the final 7:37.

La Roche hit 14 of 16 free throws but they struggled from the field. They shot 28% (19 of 67) and hit just 1 of 15 three-pointers.

Cole had a double-double wth 19 points and 12 rebounds. She was a perfect 7 for 7 from the free throw line and leads the AMCC at 90.3%. She is currently on pace to set the AMCC Conference record for free throw percentage (89.7%) and ranks eighth nationally.

La Roche will travel to Penn State Altoona on Saturday for a big conference game. Tip-off is 4pm.
