Redhawks Soar Past D'Youville, Pick Up 83-59 Road Victory

BUFFALO, NY -- La Roche picked up an important AMCC road victory after cruising to an 83-59 victory over D'Youville on Saturday. The Redhawks climb into third place in the AMCC with a 7-8 overall record and 5-3 conference record.

Darrian Johnson and Jenna Cole buried threes on the Redhawks' first two possessions and La Roche opened on an 11-2 run. They built the lead to as many as fourteen points in the first quarter and entered the first intermission with a 26-15 advantage. Cole nearly outscored the Spartans with 11 first quarter points.

La Roche used an 11-0 second quarter run to break it open. Johnson hit a pair of three-pointers over the course of the run. She then drained a three at the buzzer as the Redhawks entered halftime with a commanding 48-28 lead.

Despite a pair of threes by Johnson, D'Youville cut the twenty-point halftime deficit to sixteen at the end of the third quarter. Any concern of a fourth quarter comeback was put to rest when the Redhawks opened the fourth on an 11-0 run. La Roche dominated the boards over the course of the run.

The Redhawks outrebounded D'Youville 51-40 including 20-9 on the offensive glass. They shot 41% and hit ten 3-pointers.

Johnson scored a game-high 27 points (7 of 12 3-pointers) to go along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Cole registered a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. She hit 10 of 14 shots and is shooting an AMCC-best 54%.

Stephanie Thomas reached double-digits with 10 points and Shaundrea Butler dished out 9 assists.

The Redhawks will host Penn State Behrend on Wednesday. Game is an 8pm tip.
